Dixies Calhoun Biscuits

7 cups all purpose flour
1/8 cup sugar
2 tablespoons baking powder
1/2 tablespoon salt
1/2 tablespoon baking soda
3/4 pound Crisco®
2 1/4 cups whole milk

Measure all dry ingredients into the mixing bowl of an electric stand mixer. Using the dough hook mix the ingredients well.

Cut the Crisco® into dough by pulsing the mixer (about 20 pulses). With mixer running, add the milk and let it incorporate quickly. Turn the mixer off.

On a flat smooth surface that has been dusted with flour, turn out the mixture. Flour a rolling pin and the top of the dough. Roll out the dough until flat and smooth and about 1 1/2 inches thick.

Using a round biscuit cutter coated in flour, cut out as many biscuits as possible. Place them close together on a greased sheet pan.

Bake them at 350° for 12-13 minutes.

Makes 15 biscuits.
